Stage 2 meal timesFeeding a toddler can be a challenge – especially now they know how to say ‘No!’! But from breakfast to dinner and the snacks in between it’s important that your toddler’s diet is balanced and packed with nutrients. They’ll need plenty of food to fuel all their playing and growth. We’ve included some suggestions here for small balanced meals and some nutritious snacks, and our team is here to help with any questions you might have – just give us a call.
Giving your toddler a balanced diet from morning to nightYour active toddler is growing rapidly. To get the right balance of energy and nutrients, they’ll tend to need 3 small balanced meals a day with regular nutritious snacks in-between. So what kind of small, balanced meals can you give your toddler? BreakfastIt’s important that your toddler eats breakfast so they get a nutritious start to their day. Why not try a bowl of Cow & Gate Toddler Balance breakfast cereal? Unlike other cereals they have no added sugar or salt and contain 1/3 of your toddler’s key daily vitamins and minerals per bowl.
LunchFor lunch, give them a balanced meal consisting of something high in carbohydrates such as potato, rice, or pasta, protein rich foods such as meat, fish, poultry or pulses and at least two different vegetables, ideally more, as different vegetables contain different nutrients. The Cow & Gate Toddler Balance range provides a variety of recipes from all the food groups, containing up to seven different vegetables per recipe. As a drink, water or diluted fruit juice in a beaker are best. You could finish off lunch with a nutritious fruit or dairy dessert like fruit pots or pouches, yummy rice pudding or fruit yogurts. Supper or Teatime
If your toddler has eaten everything up until now, including their in-between snacks (lucky you!), don't be surprised if they’re not up to eating much at teatime. Nutritious snacksYour toddler's tummy is at least 5 times smaller than yours, so they’ll need to eat small amounts of energy and nutrient-rich foods frequently throughout the day. It's not surprising then that mid-morning and afternoon snacks play such an important role in their diet!
Encourage your toddler to drink their milkAs a rule of thumb, try to accompany your toddler’s mid and afternoon snacks with a beaker of milk. |
